When I designed this home office for an amazing woman that mentors and inspires fellow woman entrepreneurs, I knew it had to be as special and upbeat as she is. The space had to be multi-functional as my client uses the space to record podcasts, create viral videos, and also meets with clients to create website and social media content. The space also had to showcase her personality. It was designed with her branded company colours of blush pink and seafoam green. To my surprise, I was even able to find colour coordinated boxes as part of the styling items to showcase her colours as further visual branding on the floating shelves! The layout worked very well to include a free-standing writing desk in front of custom built-in millwork to house her files and storage. The desk chair was practical with a swivel function and featured brass accents that carried throughout the styling pieces. The TV served double duty: to allow her clients to view the newly designed website in a larger format than if she showed it on her laptop, while also providing a visual backdrop that she changed with inspiring backgrounds when it was not hooked up to her computer. The taupe oak accent counter and shelves were used to coordinate her husband’s desk that is also in the room (not shown). The wood accents coordinated the offices on both sides of the space to give a cohesive appearance, as the room needed to be a home office for both of them to work at the same time.
The result was a light, bright and cheerful space, which is exactly what the client requested to feel inspired when she comes into the room every day. Home offices have become more in demand than ever before due to the changing times in which we live, and my goal as a designer is to design spaces that clients want to be in while they are working and feel inspired in the room.
