How to Make Wise Investing Decisions For Children's Rooms

I am very grateful to be the mother of the most incredible girl named Claire. She is 8 years old and everyone has told me that she is a miniature version of myself, not only because we have the same curly hair and an eye for all things pink, but because she loves to put an extra touch of detail in everything she does in order to stand out.
I had always dreamt of having a child, and when I found out I was having a girl, I had her nursery designed in my head long before she was even born. When it came time to design the room, I had a vision that was timeless, and it still is 8 years later.
You see, most parents forget about some key components to design and timelessness when it comes to designing their children's room. In this post, I plan on uncovering all of the key components in order to save you time, money, and the stress that comes with redecorating when the children outgrow their space.
Tip One: I invested in a look that I knew would grow with her. I never had the juvenile prints or accessories, as these are often outgrown quickly. For example, the antique floral drapery panels I invested in for her nursery have been moved to my new home, and they carry with them the inspiration for a girly wonderland.

Tip Two: I believe in using good quality furniture that is made of solid wood instead of buying a laminate big box dresser that will surely fall apart in a year. Quality isn't that hard to find. I upcycled my childhood dresser and painted it a rich blush pink with new decorative hardware, and purchased a solid wood desk from Kijji which I painted a fresh white with fusion paint.
Tip Three: Choose accessories that are meaningful.

The accessories for Claire's room were a
combination of mine from my childhood, and from the Parisian style apartment I had years before she was born. I love feminine details, and her accessories are a nod to my childhood, and I still love to look at them today.
Tip Four: Invest in good bedding.

The bedding I chose was also timeless, it was an investment from Pottery Barn Kids by Monique L'Huillier and it's worth noting that it was more expensive than my own bedding (the things we do for our kids!). These unique quality pieces have taught my daughter to respect and take care of things.

The design elements I chose for my daughter's room have been able to withstand the infant years, and travelled with us to our new home in Niagara. Now I know she is only 8-years-old, but I hope that this design sticks with her for a few more years. When she becomes a teenager, she will likely have her own ideas so you will likely hear more about that in future blogs! To hear more about Design Tips for the entire family, CLICK HERE.
